2017-2018 Hot off the Runway

By Chris Astrala

From Seventies inspired athletic silhouettes to eclectic patterns and unexpected motifs, the runways came to life in a sea of invigorating men’s fashion trends. A wild animal print jacket here and a sleek velour tracksuit there; looks were political, whimsical, and oft times personal.

Shades of Gray

Designers showed an affinity for monochromatic gray on gray looks both in suiting and accessories.

Leopard Print

While animal print is traditionally considered to be feminine, designers made the trend fresh and masculine utilizing a toned down motif to construct outerwear and accessories.

Prep School Varsity

Collegiate style staples like striped sweaters and print pants were paired together with worn in feeling accessories creating a look that is surprisingly cool without feeling nerdy.

Peacocking

In Fashion, peacocking is a term used to define the bravest style attention seekers of them all. Designers cleverly toyed with the idea offering unusual, stand out prints and motifs including the look of actual peacock feathers.

Urban Rodeo

Rugged sensibility meets modern style in this clash of country meets city trends. A mix of high-end pieces with relaxed details creates the vibe.

Rock & Roll Military

How do you wear your uniform? This Seasons fashionable male wears his with a colorful striped fur jacket. Designers blended military feeling prints and design with daring statement pieces.

Leather on Leather

Leather is a classic men’s accent. However, when paired alongside even more leather it instantly becomes a new modern trend. Designers paired traditional items like leather jackets with unconventional pieces like leather tops and pants.

New School Goth

Goth is a trend that just keeps being reinterpreted. For FW17-18, the Goth kids are all about toned down street style. Goth classics like black boots and slouchy trousers are paired with graphic shirting in a palette of mostly black.

Political Street Style

While the world is talking politics, these trendsetters will be wearing it. Designers cleverly and wittingly delivered cryptic political and socially charged messages through various designs and motifs.

The “Sports” Suit

This year’s suit is for the man who doesn’t actually like suit. Super relaxed, comfortable and incredibly hip feeling, this certainly isn’t your dad’s suiting. Designers offered sleek tailored suiting in athletic feeling fabric choices like jersey and soft knits.

Signature Trousers

When it comes to pants men usually have a few options: jeans, trousers, or khakis. Designers offered a few more daring statements to this year’s wardrobe with a collection of modern, Rock-and-Roll inspired trousers with sleek details.

Down to Earth Style

For those of us who are not that into the whole high fashion thing, here are a few options to modify your wardrobe that might be a little closer to our comfort level.

Loafers Re-invented

Loafers this season are debuting in a variety of colors (like blue and cognac) and materials (suede and leather). Don’t worry, for the traditional penny loafer lover there are still plenty of those to go around. If you’re looking for a little stylish change-up from your traditional dress shoes we’ve got you covered.

Best Men’s Polo Shirts to Go From Work to the Weekend

We have to admit, we still totally dig sporting a polo shirt in the summer. But, we’re still a little scarred by the memory of this basically being our uniform growing up. Fear not, the polo has changed since you were little. First off, not all the sleeves are so tight they make you look like The Fonz when he would vacation in the summer. Second, they come in a variety of fabrics, styles and fits that work with whatever your current body status is.

The 5 Best Jeans for Men

We’re throwing the “rule book” out the window that claims you can only wear light colored jeans in the spring and summer. We weren’t great following rules anyway. But, since we’re craving all things ‘fall’, light-to-dark washed denim looks great if you’re heading to the office or out on that date you’ve been nervously waiting to go on. And sometimes an event requires something darker. We’ve got you covered there too. The only rule we do try to follow is that your jeans should fit…and fit well. Toss out anything you have that’s labeled anything like: baggy, boxy, extra relaxed. We’re not saying you need to go the skinny route (but go for it if you can), but slim-to-straight-legged is a fit you usually can’t go wrong with. This fall-into-winter season you’re going to see a lot of traditional dark denim, some cool washed-out grays, and some lighter picks too. Oh, and, yes, sometimes they’re ripped and, well, sometimes that’s ok.

Put Your Best Face Forward

Now that we got the wardrobe together it’s time to work on giving your face a little lift without going under the knife. From too much sun exposure and sloppy shaving sometimes our face could use a little refresher. Whether you have oily skin or dry skin you need a little something extra that will help with your current skin situation and still get you ready for that daily shave all at the same time. Plus, adult acne isn’t the most fun to deal with so why not use a face wash that’s gentle and keep that situation at bay.
